To complete one of our challenges you need: specialist equipment including a top of the range ocean rowing boat, waterproof clothing, safety equipment and a passion to succeed.
That’s a lot! So how about we make a deal – you provide the drive and the passion and we will provide the rest.
Our focus is to ensure that you have all the equipment and specialist clothing that you need to take on this challenge without needing to invest in lots of new kit. This not only keeps the cost down for you, but allows you to have trust that any equipment you do use, will be tried, tested and trusted in the industry.
For your level 1 training, we will give you with a Shoreseeker breathable t-shirt, drinks bottle, dry bag and hand pads to help keep blisters at bay. We will also provide you with the waterproofs and all the safety equipment that you'll need to take part.
For your Level 2 training, we'll give you a Shoreseeker jacket and shorts, and as with Level 1, we'll also provide all the kit that you'll need.
Our training is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of how to use all of our equipment, so don’t worry if you don’t know what a rudder or a daggerboard is, by the time we are done, you will sound like a pro.
When it comes to your challenge, you'll then have all the gear and be prepared for your race. Throughout your race, you are welcome sleep on-board the boats whilst in port.
What's not included
We want to be as transparent as we can with you, as we all hate hidden costs. It is useful to know what's not included, so that you can factor it in. There are certain items that you will need to bring with you, such as a sleeping bag, clothes to wear under your Shoreseeker waterproofs (gym wear is often the best), sun cream, trainers, hats, toiletries, personal medication etc.
Travel to and from training and your challenge destinations are also not included. This is so you can travel as you would prefer. It is designed this way to give the choice and flexibility to choose your own costings, rather than have us enforce a rate upon you. The same also applies to accommodation.
Travel insurance is not included in your entry fee. We require everybody to have travel insurance to cover you for any medical assistance or repatriation that you could require during training and your race leg. We are currently negotiating a travel insurance policy that you will be required to take out if you cannot provide evidence of your own travel insurance policy that will cover you for throughout. We do not have the total cost for this yet, but it will not be more than £100 per leg assuming you meet their medical requirements.
If you would like to stay in B&Bs, hostels or hotels when not on-board the boats, then this will be at your own cost, and we will provide recommended locations at every destination. Yet again this is so you can decide how much you wish to spend on accommodation: some challengers are happy with a quick stop at a hostel, whilst others want a bit more luxury. We do not want to force a set rate upon you. There will be the opportunity to sleep on-board our boats before your challenge starts, but these places are limited and given on a first-come, first-serve basis.
We work very hard to keep the costs down for you to take part in our challenges, and so we do not aim to provide anything that you can source yourselves as easily and as cheaply as we can. If we can help with any of these things though, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
